![]() ![]() At this point in the game we can't really change much, and it seems like we don't really have to. We've got to be aware of what they're doing. That game's due in January next year - not long before Dead Island 2, in spring. Whatever the disagreement, Techland arguably landed on its feet, with publisher Warner Bros. "Even with Dead Island there were a lot of moments where we would disagree on the creative vision of the project, so this might have been one of the factors." "They had a lot of ideas about how they wanted to run the franchise," he went on. "Well you'd have to ask them." Deep Silver declined comment. Was Deep Silver unhappy with Techland's work? It sounds like Deep Silver turned Techland away. "I would love to make a direct sequel, but at some point a decision was made." We can't just make a Dead Island 2 and change the name it's got to be something fresh, it's got to be something unique. "For us it turned out well, because being forced to come up with a new IP. "There's always tension between the publisher and developer. "Well, you know, we had our ups and downs," Binkowski said. What happened - did Techland and Deep Silver fall out? A year later, at E3 2014, Dead Island 2 was announced - a game made by Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager. Riptide wasn't brilliant but again it wasn't awful.īut a month after Riptide's April 2013 release, Techland announced a new zombie-killing game called Dying Light. Techland made two Dead Island games for Deep Silver: Dead Island, and standalone expansion Dead Island: Riptide. At that point, that was the best decision we could do." If you play the game thinking that something might happen, you're going to lose the game. It's like playing poker: you have to make a decision with the information you have now. "At that point we weren't really in a position to negotiate," he said, "so that was the best deal we could get. It was Techland's game, Techland's idea, but it wasn't a strong enough entity as a developer to argue. "Right from the start, the IP was theirs," Techland game designer Maciej Binkowski told me, referencing publisher Deep Silver (Saints Row, Homefront). Five million sales! And for a new IP! Techland clearly did something right.īut what it didn't do was retain ownership of the IP. In February 2013 the game passed the five million sales mark. Dead Island needs 5 brand new characters and a locker full of new weapons before dead island 3.Why isn't Polish developer Techland making Dead Island 2? It made the first game, after all.ĭead Island wasn't fantastic but it was successful - very successful. Its hard to recommend it but if you enjoyed the first its worth playing just don't expect too much. the problems with on-line connections and random loss of connections still persisting in Riptide. unlike the original were you had the Hotel area the lab jungle area the boat ride and so on. the areas lack distinction and merge into one. in riptide it does not seem too matter also the island seems to be way smaller than the original and the areas look familiar in places even with the new flooded water levels. The originals story was based around introducing you to each new playable character and even mission givers. There is even less story now as you are only quickly introduced to the new guy after a flashback to the events of dead island. … Expandĭead island riptide i scored this game a 7 due to it keeping its fun factor but really it is no were near as good as the original dead island Dead island riptide i scored this game a 7 due to it keeping its fun factor but really it is no were near as good as the original dead island with one new playable character and not many new weapons you go straight back to using your favorite weapons from dead island 1. Techland, please work on the story for the next game though. I would much rather have a new Dead Island every 2 years than wait 3 to 4 years for a "true sequel" The gameplay is why we like Dead Island. All of Dead Islands issues were not addressed, but when you push out the game in 19 months, you have to cut them some slack. Riptide is a fun game with new ideas and some improvements. People get over it, there are minor changes in God of War Ascension compared to 3, and people are not rating it a 3 or 4. I really enjoyed the gameplay and rpg elements that dead island had to offer, so why should Techland go back to the drawing board. Yes this may not be a direct sequel but it is a continuation of the story and a reason to play more Dead Island. Ok, I understand there is not alot of new features here and the voice acting sucks, but I love Dead Island as well as 5 million other people. ![]()
